Objectives & Structure

Who we are

Founded in 1874, AFG is one of the oldest gas associations in the world. It has over 1300 members from the French and foreign gas industry (natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas), allied industries (equipment and appliances manufacturers, installation companies, consultancy offices, etc.) and business companies, associations, etc. The major gas companies are standing members. AFG is headed by a Board of Directors that reflect this variety of components. The Board of Directors is assisted by a Committee composed of representatives from the gas industry from exploration and production to the burner tip. A staff of thirty, within the General Delegation, provides the day to day operations.

AFG has the following responsibilities, as stated in the bylaws:
> apply in general all appropriate ways and means to help develop and promote the French gas industry,
> encourage technical activities of interest to the gas sector, within Committees and publicise them,
> participate in providing and developing training and refresher courses for engineers and other professionals in the gas industry,
> co-ordinate and plan standardisation work for the gas industry,
> administer gas certification procedures for the products used in the gas line process,
> represent the French gas industry abroad and in international organisations (IGU, Eurogas and Marcogaz).
Its activities are naturally derived from these responsibilities.

In parallel to AFG which represents a national unit, national activities have been relayed in France for some years through nine regional ATGs, which provide for technical communication and help promote the French gas industry.

They organise one-day meetings on a topical subject to update participants from various origins on a subject.
